1) Age
The most points are awarded at ages 25–32. If you are close to a birthday that reduces points, consider lodging your EOI promptly.
2) English Language
Higher English equals higher Australia Migration Points. Retesting to reach “Proficient” or “Superior” can unlock a large jump.
Tests include IELTS, PTE and TOEFL—choose the one that best suits your strengths – please note there were important changes to English test benchmarks on August 7, 2025.
3) Skilled Employment (Overseas & Australian)
Years of experience in your nominated occupation can add significant points. Ensure your work history aligns with the
correct ANZSCO and that you can evidence tasks, hours and dates.
4) Qualifications
Bachelor or higher usually scores well. Trade qualifications also count. Your assessing authority’s decision often drives
which level is accepted—so plan your skills assessment carefully.
5) Australian Study & Specialist Education
Completing eligible study in Australia can add points, with extra points for specialist STEM research. Check the rules before enrolling.
6) NAATI CCL / Community Language
Passing an approved NAATI CCL test can add bonus Australia Migration Points. This is often one of the quickest point boosts.
7) Professional Year
Accounting, ICT and Engineering professional year programs can increase your score if completed within the required timeframe.
8) Partner Points
You may earn points if your partner meets age, English and skills criteria, or for having no spouse/de facto partner at time of invitation.
